*This is a First-Come/First-Serve event. You will be notified by email if you got in. If you are on the waiting list, you will be notified as spots open up.
Itinerary:
3 miles total (4 mile loop if going to springs)
9 am - noon - Snowshoe
Drive: I-15, 800 N Orem, Provo Canyon, Vivian Park, drive south about 3 miles, rt to Big Springs park, drive to top parking lot (furthest west). Map to park
Activities:
Hike/Snowshoe Big Spring Hollow trails - 3 miles. You get to a meadow in about 15-20 min. Then continued on, through the woods until about 1.5 miles where the trail meets the road. You can also head up from the south end of the parking lot, west, up the road and came to the meadow in about 20 min and then continued on the road until it met up with the trail at about 1.5 miles. Great place to turn around and make it a loop or you can continue on either trail for more miles. Map of trail (longer version) and summer trail report.
Gear: Snowshoes/poles (weather dependent), gaiters (optional - can rent), (NO COTTON)
thermal top and bottom, wool socks or just not cotton socks, snow pants, long sleeve
fleece, light waterproof jacket, gloves, hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, camelback or
regular back pack (with space remaining to shove clothes in when you get too warm), 1
Liters water, 3-4 snacks, WATERPROOF boots or non-waterproof boots/shoes and also
rent "overshoes", sled.
Rentals: Snowshoes: $12 (UVU- includes poles and overboots or $8 only
