*This is a First-Come/First-Serve event. You will be notified by email if you got in. If you are on the waiting list, you will be notified as spots open up.

** MUST have rappelled in the last 2 years to attend

*** REQUIRED clinic for anyone wishing to go on canyoneering trips in the next 12 months

Itinerary:

11:30 pm - 2:30 pm - Recertification

3:00 - 7:00 pm - First Time Certification

Directions: Red Ledges Picnic Area, Spanish Fork Canyon

Activity: Canyoneering Clinic - Learn how to canyoneer! Our awesome lead guides will teach you the Core Skills from the American Canyoneering Association, including Logics and Safety, Leave No Trace, Rope and Equipment Care, Basic Knots, Intro to Anchors and Rigging, Signals/Communication, Climbing/Spotting/Hand Lines, Rappelling/Belaying/Self-Rescue skills.

Recertification:

Station 1 - Rappelling - adding friction/locking off, sit start, rappelling with backpack, using VT prussik

Station 2 - Knots - Fishermans, figure 8 on a bite, figure 8 follow through, munter, clove hitch, water knot, girth hitch, prussik, VT prussik

Station 3 - Lecture/Info pass off -  (read ACA booklet before and be able to describe): canyon ratings, accidents, weather, flash floods, SOS on Beacon, leave no trace, hand signals

Certification:

Station 1 - Rappelling - adding friction/locking off, sit start, rappelling with backpack, using VT prussik

Station 2 - Knots - Fishermans, figure 8 on a bite, figure 8 follow through, munter, clove hitch, water knot, girth hitch, prussik, VT prussik

Station 3 - Lecture/Info pass off -  (read ACA booklet before and be able to describe): canyon ratings, accidents, weather, flash floods, SOS on Beacon, leave no trace, hand signals

Gear: harness (can rent), helmet (can rent), canyoneering rappel device and locking carabiner (if you have them), 1 L water, snacks, leather gloves

Rentals (on your own):

Harness: $5/day (BYU Outdoors Unltd)

Helmet: $4/day (BYU Outdoors Unltd); $4/day (UVU Outdoor Adventure Center)
