Moderately steep hike to a 10,000 ft peak!! Incredible views of Lake Catharine and Brighton Ski Resort.
Directions - Alta, Little Cottonwood Cyn - Costs $10 to get into trailhead area, carpool on left side of ranger tollbooth; Trailhead is Catharine's Pass

Hike Sunset Peak - 4 mile lightly trafficked out and back trail to a beautiful pass and summit above Lake Catharine. Start at Catharine's Pass trailhead and head south east up the well-marked trail. About 20 min the trail forks. Take the left fork up the east side of the basin to Catharine's Pass. Here, you can see Lake Martha and Lake Catharine below and Sunset Peak to the right. Take the rocky and sandy trail up to the right and behind the hill. The trail then descends to the saddle before climbing left along the ridgeline to almost the summit. It turns sharply left about 5 min from the top. Don't miss this turn, or you will continue down the ridge to the east. Trail Report
Gear - Hiking pants, synthetic T-shirt, long sleeve synthetic top, long sleeve fleece, light waterproof jacket, hat, headlamp, sunglasses, sunscreen, camelback or regular back pack with waist belt, 2-3 Liters water, 4-6 snacks, first aid kit, hiking boots/running shoes, trekking poles (optional)

Hike - 4:30-7:30 pm (be off by 730 or it will be too dark)
