Snowshoe/Sledding - Big Springs, Provo Cyn 1/7/24

Sample Itinerary:

Snowshoe to Trail Junction - 10:00 am - 11:00 am

Sled Down - 11:00 am


Drive: Upper parking lot, Big Springs, Provo Cyn


Activities:

Hike/Snowshoe Big Spring Hollow trails - 3 miles. You get to a meadow in about 15-20 min. Then continued on, through the woods until about 1.5 miles where the trail meets the road. You can also head up from the south end of the parking lot, west, up the road and come to the meadow in about 20 min and then continue on the road until it meets up with the trail at about 1.5 miles. Great place to turn around and make it a loop or you can continue on either trail for more miles. All Trails Trip Report

Gear: Snowshoes/poles (weather dependent), gaiters (optional - can rent), (NO COTTON)

thermal top and bottom, wool socks or just not cotton socks, snow pants, long sleeve

fleece, light waterproof jacket, gloves, hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, camelback or

regular back pack (with space remaining to shove clothes in when you get too warm), 1

Liters water, 3-4 snacks, WATERPROOF boots or non-waterproof boots/shoes and also

rent "overshoes", sled (toboggan works best, not so much the flat foam ones)


Rentals - Snowshoes: $10 (UVU- includes poles and overboots or $8 only

snowshoes); $10 (BYU Outdoors Unltd); $10 (Out N’ Back in

Orem)

Overshoes: $4 (UVU Outdoor Adventure); $5 (BYU Outdoors Unltd)

Poles: $4 (Out N Back); $5 (BYU Outdoors Unltd)

Gaiters (cover ankles from getting snow): $3 (BYU Outdoors Unltd)
