Hiking - Deseret Peak 6/17/21

THE easiest highest peak to test your hiking skills. June is perfect with wildflowers and little snow.



Directions: Deseret Peak Wilderness. Trailhead


Activity:

Hike Deseret Peak - 7.4 mile out and back mountain trail. Great training for Mt Timpanogos. High altitude. Start at top of Loop Campground. After about 15-20 min, trail crosses a river. Trail heads sharp left on the opposite side of river and then forks. Take right fork. The trail heads up through pine forests and meadows to the lower ridge. Turn right up ridgeline to summit. Can do as a loop at the top. This adds another 1.5 miles. Trail Report

Glissading - usually a moderate patch of snow above the first ridgeline.

Rope Swing - Great post-hike activity. Located at the lower Loop campground on the right

side.

Camping - can camp at the Loop Campground or along the trail.


Gear: Hiking pants, synthetic T-shirt, long sleeve synthetic top, long sleeve fleece, light waterproof jacket, thin gloves, hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, camelback or regular back pack with waist belt, 3-4 Liters water, 6-10 snacks, first aid kit, hiking boots/running shoes, trekking poles (optional).


Sample Itinerary:

Hike - 6 am-3:30 pm

Rope Swing - 3:30-4 pm
