Itinerary:
3 pm - Discuss winter safety
330 pm - Demo and practice strides/walking uphill
430 pm - Demo and practice downhill
530 pm - back to trailhead
Drive: I-15 north, east 9000 s, up Little Cottonwood Cyn to Alta Ski Resort at the end of the road, upper parking lot. Meet at the east end of the parking lot. Trailhead
Activity:
Snowshoeing Clinic - 1 mile total. Start at the Albion Basin Rd. Discuss avalanche danger, hypothermia, frostbite. Demo and practice stride and breaking trail techniques. Snowshoe to powder area with slope and demo and practice uphill techniques and switch-backing. At top of slope demo and practice downhill techniques.
Gear: Snowshoes, poles (optional), waterproof boots, short and long sleeve synthetic shirt, liner pants, ski pants, fleece jacket, rain/wind jacket, gloves, hat, goggles, sunscreen, small backpack, 1-2 L water, 2-3 snacks
