Hiking - Mt Timpanogos - Sunrise (Extreme)

Itinerary -

1 am - Trailhead

130-630 am - hike to saddle

630-730 am - breakfast

730-830 am - summit

9-1 pm - hike down

Directions -  Timpooneke Trailhead, American Fk Cyn (you MUST make parking reservations 2 months in advance here)

Activity - 

Hike Mt Timpanogos by Timpooneke Trail - 15 mile difficult trail. For the night hike version, start from the trailhead around 1 am. Takes about 4-6 hours to the saddle for sunrise and a light breakfast. You head up through the woods up the canyon to several bands of cliffs which are navigated through several switchbacks. You top out at the edge of the Primrose Cirque full of wildflowers and several small clumps of trees. Take your first left then quick right to stay on the summit trail. The trail then becomes rocky as you make your way up several switchbacks to the saddle. After a light breakfast, head up to the summit along the ridge south. After about 19 minutes and a large cliff on your left, don't miss the tight switchbacks on your left heading straight up the cliffs to the ridgeline. Continue onward up along the right side of the ridge to the summit and metal hut. Continue same route back. There is NO WATER on this route except for at mile 2 near Scout Falls. Trail Report. 

Gear - Thin liner pants, long sleeve shirt, pants, T-shirt, fleece, down jacket, waterproof jacket, light gloves, daypack with waistbelt, 3 L water, 8-12 snacks, sunglasses, baseball hat and winter hat, running shoes/hiking boots, first aid kit, headlamp with extra batteries, trekking poles
