Downhill Skiing - Powder Mountain 3/6/21



Drive: I-15 north, I-89, rt Hwy 39/Ogden Cyn, left hwy 158 (across the dam), upper parking lot of Sundown Lift at the horseshoe bend before the main resort


Permits: $34 night pass (order online before)


Activities:

Downhill skiing/Snowboarding - beginner (long run), intermediate, advanced runs,

terrain park. Map

Ogden Hot springs - Directions: Take exit 344 from I-15, travel east on 12th Ave. 5

miles. The hot spring is on the south side of the mouth of the canyon just after

you go under the large overhead water pipe. Park across from the waterfall that is

on the north side of the road. There is a gate but it has been forced open and you

can get through. It's a 5 min walk along a cliffy dirt path on the south side of the

river to about 6 pools.


Gear - skis/boots/poles (can rent), helmet (can rent), thin liner pants, thin long sleeve shirt,

ski pants, ski coat, hat, gloves, goggles, hand warmers, snacks, swimsuit/towel

Rentals (on your own) -

Downhill ski package (includes skis, poles, boots): $17 (UVU Outdoor Adventure

Center - includes helmet); $17 (BYU Outdoors Unltd); $25 (Out

N’ Back in Orem); $30 (Powder Mountain - rent online before)

Helmet - $5 (Out N’ Back in Orem); $6 (BYU Outdoors Unltd)


Sample Itinerary -

2:30 pm - arrive and get rentals/tickets

3 - 6 pm - Ski/board while it's still light

6 pm - dinner (pizza, cocoa, etc) at the small shack by the firepit

6:30 - 9 pm - Ski/board in the dark

9:30 pm - Soak in free Ogden hot springs on the way home (were open as of 3/6/21)
