Tips:
- If you are doing this on a weekend in the summer, you need to be at the trailhead BEFORE 7 am for parking
- Bring a water filter to filter water at Emerald Lake (So many people run out of water)
- Microspikes are a MUST if there is any snowfields you must cross
- Only slide down the snowfield to the south of the summit if it is after noon - as the snow must be mushy for you to slide. Also bring a mountaineering axe or put two hiking poles together collapsed to use to slow yourself down.
- If bringing a dog, keep them leashed around the mountain goats near Emerald Lake and above. There were several deaths this year from goats attacking dogs.
- Listen to music on steep section up to saddle
- Bring headlamp always
- Bring good rainjacket! (storms come in quickly even if not on the weather forcast)
Gear: long sleeve shirt, hiking pants or shorts, T-shirt, fleece, waterproof jacket, light gloves, daypack with waistbelt, 3 L water (I would only carry 1.5-2 L - plenty of places to refill and I can refill with my purifier if you need), 8-12 snacks & sandwich (recommend a couple caffeine gu’s), sunglasses, baseball hat, sunscreen, comfortable often used running shoes/hiking boots, first aid kit, headlamp with extra batteries, ice cleats, black garbage bag, trekking poles, Gatorade or electrolytes powder in addition to water, and blister care
