Avalanche Training - 12/10/22



Itinerary:

1:00 pm - Carpooling

2:00 pm - Meet at bathrooms on west side of parking lot

2:15 pm - 4:30 pm - Clinic


Activity: This is a hand's on clinic for all Assistant Guides wishing to assist in winter activities for 2022: Snowshoeing, Snowboarding, Cross Country Skiing or Downhill Skiing.

Cost: $10.00 (to cover avalanche gear: beacons/shovels/probes @UVU Outdoor Adventure Center ) AND $6.00 day pass or free with National Parks Pass


Avalanche Clinic: Discuss avalanche safety and awareness and KBYG video; Discuss snow pack; Learn about slope and hazardous terrain; Dig snow pits; Play with avalanche beacons; Practice search and rescue techniques with beacons, probes and shovels.


Gear: WATERPROOF boots or non-waterproof boots/shoes, gaiters (optional - can rent), (NO COTTON) thermal top and bottom, wool socks or just not cotton socks, snow pants, long sleeve fleece, light waterproof jacket, gloves, hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, camelback or regular back pack, 1 Liters water, 2-3 snacks. We will provide beacons, shovels, probes.


Rentals: Avalanche Gear (beacon, shovel, probe) $10 UVU Adventure Center, $30 U of U Outdoor Adventures
