Rappelling Training

  • Set up: 

    • Anchors - webbing/quick link anchors, quads

      • North bolts

        • Station 1 -(south on low angle slope) quad on bolts, 2 static ropes, locking carabiners 

      • South Bolts

        • Station 2 - guided rappel off bolts to tree, 2 60 m ropes, 8 block, totem, carabiners, webbing, quick links, friction device

        • Station 3 - quad or webbing on bolts, 1 60 m rope

    • Deadman - half set up

    • Lecture 3-330 pm

    • Anchors 330-430 pm

    • Station 1 (low angel rappel)

    • Station 2 (zipline - 2 ropes)

    • Station 3 (free handing rappel)

      • Ascension


Gear - climbing/rappelling harness (can rent), helmet (can rent), approach shoes (optional), rappel device with locking carabiner, PAS, leather gloves, T shirt, long sleeve shirt, jacket, pants, running shoes, 1-2L water, backpack, 2-4 snacks, sunscreen, sunglasses


Set up: 6 60 m static ropes, 3 quad anchors, 8 devices with locking carabiners, webbing, quick links, slings, locking carabiners, PAS's, ascenders


Rentals (on your own) - climbing harness: $5 (BYU Outdoors Unltd); $10 (Out N’ Back in Orem)

climbing shoes: $6/day (BYU Outdoors Unltd); $4/day (UVU Outdoor Adventure Center)

helmet: $4/day (BYU Outdoors Unltd); $4/day (UVU Outdoor Adventure Center)
