Activity:
Canyoneering Benson Creek - 3CII - 2.9 mile loop. 4 rappels highest 105 ft. Small, flowing stream through canyon.
Tips:
To make the approach a little shorter and easier, take the first turn right after the bridge instead of the second.
We used 8 blocks on all rappels. Chains looked great. Webbing only on the first rappel around a tree. Second set of rings on first rappel but pull appears harder.
Have a second belayer on second rappel first drop to prevent penduluming.
All rappels about 1-10 min apart. Bring 70 m for first rappel.
Watch edges on first and last rappel - adjust rope length in between every 2-3 rappelers and check rope frequently (we got a core shot on the recon)
Gear:
Rappel device with ability to lock off and add friction (ATS, Totem, Critter, Prana), locking carabiner, harness (can rent), helmet (can rent), (NO COTTON) thin liner short sleeve shirt, hiking pants, rain/windproof jacket, shoes with grip, headlamp, 2 L water, 4-6 snacks + packed lunch, backpack, first aid kit, small knife, sunscreen, sunglasses, hat
THIS IS A WATERFALL CANYON, RAIN JACKETS REQUIRED. WETSUITS ARE OPTIONAL depending on time of year.
Rentals (on your own):
- Harness: $5/day (BYU Outdoors Unltd)
- Helmet: $4/day (BYU Outdoors Unltd); $6/day (UVU Outdoor Adventure Center)

To take the shortcut, take the first right after the bridge.
