Itinerary -
8 am - Trailhead
815-3 pm - hike
Directions - White Pine Trailhead, Little Cottonwood Cyn
Activity -
Hike Pfeifferhorn Peak - 9.9 miles total out and back. Start at the White Pine Trailhead then take the turnoff to Red Pine Lake. Hike to Red Pine Lake and follow rocky trail south then west up slope and onto the rocky saddle before the summit. (Trail is hard to find going up the switchbacks - use All Trails map). Once arriving at the ridge below the peak, there is a rocky scramble. DO NOT go along the ridge like All Trails takes you. About 20 ft into the ridge scramble, scramble down the right side about 20 feet and traverse along the rocks almost to the end of the ridge OR you can take the ridge until you hit the really big rock and then stay to the left. The hike to the top is not as hard as it looks. It is just a rocky switchback hike similar to above Red Pine Lake.
Tips:
Hiking poles can be helpful for some of the climb but also need a way to have a way to secure them to your pack for the scrambling.
Great views all the way up.
Take it in 4 sections; 1-get to the lake, 2-reach the ridgeline, 3-scramble/climb the large boulders, 4-final climb to peak
