Hiking - Primrose Overlook 8/26/21

Beautiful loop with a spur to view the incredible Primrose Cirque of Mt Timpanogos.

Directions - American Fork Canyon, Alpine Summit Trailhead

Activity -

Hike Primrose Overlook and Horse Spring Trail Loop - This is a 3.6 mile moderately trafficked loop trail located near Pleasant Grove, Utah that features beautiful wild flowers and is rated as moderate. There are several turnoffs, so watch your route. Also, a fresh spring is located below the meadow below the Primrose Overlook turnoff. Trail Report (see Alpine Loop Horseshoe Spring Trip Report 6/22/21)

Do the trail counter clockwise:

It is less of a dramatic elevation change this way. The loop is a family friendly hike and the spur to Primrose Outlook is the steep optional climb.

At the Summit Trailhead Parking Lot up the Alpine Loop, start at the trail that is West of the bathrooms, see sign “Horse Flat trail”. Some uphill with aspens opens to a meadow 1.3 mi. See spur to Primrose Outlook. No sign, just a mini mountain hike up 0.4 mi. It is an out and back. Go up until you see a view of Timp, the trail blocked off and going down to Sundance. Stop at this outlook and go back to the loop. Continue down hill of loop. See trail to a horse trough. This trail is continuing the loop of Horse Flat Loop. Go through ferns. Come to a “T”. This is Lame Horse Trail. Take Left and it will return you back to the parking lot.

Bring a National Parks Pass for your windshield.
