Mt Youth - Downhill Skiing - Alta Ski Resort, Little Cottonwood Cyn 2/13/26

Itinerary:

Carpooling - 130 pm

Resort - 2:30 pm

Lesson - 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Ski (on your own) - 4:00 pm - 4:30 pm

Directions: Alta Ski Shop - Albion, Little Cottonwood Cyn

Cost: $25

Activity: Beginner Downhill Skiing Clinic for one hour, then ski on your own for the day!

Pick up rentals at Alta Ski Shop (if renting there). Then take your youth to the bathrooms (with lockers) in the building to the west. Pick up ski pass (If doing the Sunnyside Lift). Take the elevators down to the ski school area.

Beginner Lesson -

• Practice walking in ski boots

• Clip in one ski and slide around

• Clip in both skis and do "wagon wheel" drill

• Wedging on flat ground pulled by ski

• Side sliding

• Wedge stop and go down to the FREE covered magic carpet

• Practice stopping until comfortable

• Introduce wedge turns

• Change to Snow Pine lift (discuss how to get on and off lifts)

• Practice same skills

Tips:

• Take youth to the bathroom first before getting all dressed up. With littles, it's easier to just use hand sanitizer instead of them getting thier clothing all wet when washing their hands.

• Edgie Wedgies are good for littles to keep tips together

• Bring LOTS of treats for easy rewards

• Review how to get on and off magic carpets and lifts prior

• Go back for hot cocoa in the lodge when the tears get too much

• Pick days that are warm and sunny if possible

Gear: Downhill skis/boots/poles or snowboard and boots, helmet, (NO COTTON) thermal top and bottom, wool socks or just not cotton socks, snow pants, long sleeve fleece, down or puffy coat, light waterproof jacket, gloves, hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, 2 snacks in your coat, packed lunch, water bottles (in car), backpack (if you want to carry stuff on the mountain)
