Outdoor Painting - Jolley's Ranch, Springville 8/11/26

Sample Itinerary:

6:00 pm meet at location

6:00 pm - 8:00 pm - set up and paint

Directions: Lower parking lot, Jolly's Ranch, Hobble Creek Cyn

Cost: $5 for painting supplies if not bringing your own

Activities: Basic Painting class where we focused on color and composition in a landscape

Painting Lesson:

- Thumbnail sketches with pencil and paper (keep things simple/composition)

- Cover canvas with light brown (burnt umber) mid tone

- Sketch landscape with brown paint (tones- put in lights/darks/leave midtone)

- Mix colors first on palate

- Add paint back to front of the scene or dark to light

- Keep it simple - don’t paint leaves, paint sections of color

Tips:

• Refill waters

• Use retard with acrylic paints

• Mini water spray bottles to keep paints moist 

Gear: chair, easel or additional chair, 2 water bottles (one for dirty paint water - don't pour onto sensitive lake shore), acrylic paints, brushes, canvas board, paper towels (for cleaning brushes), paper plate or palate (for paint), plastic bag (for garbage), sunhat, sunscreen
