Rafting (Assistant Trip Leader Training) - Weber River, Henefer to Croydon 9/20/25

Itinerary -

8 am - Set up Shuttle

830-930 am - On Land Lecture and Skills

930-1130 am - Float River and practice paddling, maneuvering skills, rescues

1130-12 pm - Deflate raft and get shuttle vehicles


Directions: Put In - Weber River Float Parking Lot  , Henefer

Take Out - Croydon Bridge (left side)


Cost: $15 raft rental with life jacket ($75 divided by 6 persons in a raft)


Activity: Rafting Weber River -

  • On Land - 

    • Inflate Raft and prep

    • Safety Chat

      • Environment 

        • CFS

        • River conditions, sections of the river, put in/take outs

      • People

        • Lifejackets

        • Sunscreen/hats/water

      • Gear

        • Paddles/Strokes

        • Throw bags (practice throwing) and pulling someone into boat

        • Pull strap (NRS strap on middle thort)

        • Rope management (keep loose ends of rope tucked away)

      • Dangers/Safety

        • Strainers

        • Sweepers

        • Rocks

        • Highside (demo)


  • On Water - 

    • Demo

      • Giving paddling orders

      • 360 degree turn

      • Catch eddy

      • Navigate through obstacles


Gear - thin T-shirt, thin long-sleeve shirt, rain jacket, shorts, swimming suit, running shoes or water shoes, 1 L water in water bottle, 2 snacks, dry bag, sunscreen, sunglasses, hat, Life jacket (will provide) with 5-6 person raft (rent from BYU or UVU)


Rentals -

  • Rafts - 6 person rafts with life jackets and paddles ($60 per day - BYU Outdoors; $70 per day - UVU Adventure Center - includes pump and throw bag)

  • Electric pump ($15 per day - BYU Outdoors)

  • Throw Bag ($5 per day - BYU Outdoors)
