Snowshoeing - Little Cottonwood Trail 12/21/21

Beautiful woodsy trail starting at the base of Little Cottonwood Canyon and follows the river up-canyon.

Directions:

Trailhead - Little Cottonwood Canyon, Temple Quarry Nature Trail (park in the Little Cottonwood Cyn park and ride at the base of the canyon in the winter)

Activity -

Snowshoeing Little Cottonwood Trail - The trail starts at the Temple Quarry Nature Trail parking lot. In the winter, the parking lot is gated. Head up-canyon as far as you wish. We hiked about 75 min. Made it to a bridge around 50 min. A lot of fat tire bikers so be aware. We also saw tons of animal tracks including cougar tracks! We hike about 3.4 miles total of the 5.4 mile trail.

Fat Tire Biking - same trail. Can also do it as a one way downhill. (easy)

Gear - ski pants, thin synthetic pants, long sleeve synthetic top, fleece, puffy, light waterproof jacket(optional), hat, gloves, back pack with waist belt, 1.5 Liter water, 1-2 snacks, first aid kit, hiking boots/waterproof boots, ice cleats or micro spikes (optional depending on weather) or snowshoes - didn't need sunglasses as the trail is in the shade all day in the winter

Sample Itinerary -

Hike - 2:30-4:30 pm (good in the afternoon as this hike is cold in the shade all day)

Home - around 5:30pm
