Snowshoeing/Sledding - Porter Fork, Millcreek Cyn 2/29/24

Updated: Mar 20

Itinerary:

Bathroom Break - 9:00 am - 9:10 am (NO bathroom at trailhead, so stop at Einstein Bagel)

Trailhead - 9:30 am

Snowshoe/Sled down - 9:45 am - 12:30 pm

Drive: Porter Fk Trailhead, Millcreek Canyon

Cost: $5 Day use fee (Millcreek Cyn) When you exit Millcreek canyon you need to pay $5 per car with card only. There is someone in the ranger kiosk. They do not take cash.

Activity: Snowshoe Porter Fork Trail - 6.8 mile out and back (we hiked up for awhile then sledded down- not doing the whole length). This is in avalanche area, so monitor conditions. This trail is wide and steadily used by people to ski down, snowboard down, or sled. We found the Mercer Missle and Disc sleds did not work very well with the varied trail. Riders of these sleds had to get up and walk from time to time. Recommend you take plastic long walmart type sleds, or foam sleds like Airheads worked the very best. Super fun to hike up and sled down. Too long for little kids but older elementary and older will like this one, especially with the family dog. Dogs are welcome on this canyon. Odd days = off leash. Even days = on leash. Bathrooms - none at trailhead, use Rattlesnake Gulch trailhead bathrooms. Cell service - none/no beacon service either. All Trails Trip Report

Tip: You can tie some sleds together and tie to a pack instead of carrying them
