Snowshoeing - North Fork, Tibble Fk 3/2/21

Nice mellow trail, with stops for gold panning and exploring



Drive: I-15, Timpanogos Hwy, American Fork Cyn, left at Tibble Fork turnoff


Permits: $6 day use fee (FREE if you have a parks pass - put on dashboard; cash - there is a fee booth at the east bathrooms in the Tibble Fk parking lot; online - pay ahead of time "www.yourpassnow.com" and write the number from your email on a greed tag and place on your dashboard)


Activities:

Hike/Snowshoe North Fork Trail - 1.5 miles to Holman Campground and an open

bathroom! Hiking up a beautiful river gorge. 5.5 miles to Poll Line Pass. You can

go for many miles on foot here. AVALANCHE and ROCK SLIDE danger about 30

min up in a steep-walled section on the right side of the trail. Be very careful and

quick in this section. DON'T TRAVEL ON HIGH AVALANCHE DAYS OR

AFTER/DURING RAINSTORMS.

Fat Tire Bike - same trail

Snowmobiles - many miles of trail to access

Mt Biking - many trails to access on this road


Gear: Snowshoes/poles (weather dependent), gaiters (optional - can rent), (NO COTTON)

thermal top and bottom, wool socks or just not cotton socks, snow pants, long sleeve

fleece, light waterproof jacket, gloves, hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, camelback or

regular back pack (with space remaining to shove clothes in when you get too warm), 1

Liters water, 3-4 snacks, WATERPROOF boots or non-waterproof boots/shoes and also

rent "overshoes", sled.

Rentals - Snowshoes: $10 (UVU- includes poles and overboots or $8 only

snowshoes); $10 (BYU Outdoors Unltd); $10 (Out N’ Back in

Orem)

Overshoes: $4 (UVU Outdoor Adventure); $5 (BYU Outdoors Unltd)

Poles: $4 (Out N Back); $5 (BYU Outdoors Unltd)

Gaiters (cover ankles from getting snow): $3 (BYU Outdoors Unltd)

Sample Itinerary: 3 miles total

2 pm - Hike up to Holman Campground (1.5 miles) - side trails to explore

4-4:30 pm - Back to parking lot
