Directions: Lee's Ferry, Arizona https://maps.app.goo.gl/FJv7vmkLzrgod9qm7

Cost:

  1. $30 National Park Pass for the Colorado River (per car)

  2. $10 Horseshoe Bend (per car) - if you choose to check out the view from above on the way there or back

  3. $ 87.20 Boat Backhaul (tip for boat captain not included - they accept Venmo or cash) https://www.riveradventures.com/horseshoe-bend-rafting-trips/backhauling-services/

Activity: Paddleboard Colorado River - Paddle 7-8 miles down the Colorado River from Glen Canyon Dam (towering cliffs/petroglyphs). Camp below Horseshoe Bend. Next morning, continue paddling the remaining 9 miles down to Lee's Ferry. Stop mid way to hike Waterhole Canyon (wider, less cliffs, more exposed to sun).

Tips:

  1. It's hot, dry and sunny so sunscreen, hat, and electrolytes are essential

  2. Water is not safe to drink, so bring a filter

  3. Sleeping on the paddle boards can be comfortable as long as you bring a thin blow up pad and a blanket or light warm weather sleeping bag.

  4. We didn’t have to worry about mosquitos and other bugs weren’t a big deal either.

  5. Best to strap items to the top of the board than have straps going around the board (lessen drag). We found that the bungee cord around the paddle board had less drag than the ratchet strap around the board.

  6. Buying a duraflame or something similar would have been nice in the designated fire pits. (no wood gathering allowed)

Gear: Thin T-shirts, thin long-sleeve shirts, fleece, rain jacket, shorts or hiking pants, swimming suit, water shoes, running shoes or sandals (no flip flops) 2 L water bottles, electrolyte powder, or filter, snacks, small backpack/drybag, sunscreen, sunglasses, hat, first aid kit, bungee cords with rubber hooks & old carabiners to attach items to board. Paddleboard (can rent), paddles (can rent), lifejackets(can rent)

Medication: Bring all personal medications (any medications that are for allergies, diabetes, asthma, or other life-threatening conditions. Be sure to bring two sets: One for the participant, one for the lead guide to carry as a backup in the event of loss)

Rent: BYU Outdoor - $30 paddleboard/day

UVU Outdoor Adventure Center - $20 paddleboard/day
