Snowshoe a maze of trails around Silver Lake. Beautiful easy flat and short trail. What more could you ask for for an easy trail to get started in Snowshoeing?
Drive: I-15 north, rt 2-15 east, 6400 S exit, left Big Cottonwood Canyon to Brighton Ski
Resort. Park at Solitude Nordic Center (if going on a weekend, get to the parking lot
around 8 am to avoid traffic - Solitude Nordic Center opens at 8:30 am)
Permits: $8 day use fee for snowshoeing; $16 half day for cross country skiing; Pass Pricing
Activities:
Hike/Snowshoe Silver Lake Trail - 0.9 miles around Silver Lake starting at the Nordic
Center. In the summer it is about 1/2 on boardwalk with fishing boat docks. Watch
for alternate trails in the winter and summer that can take you off into the woods.
When snowshoeing stay to the left trails if going counterclockwise and the right if
you are going clockwise around the lake (in the winter the lake may be covered in
snow and appear as a giant meadow). There are many other trails you can explore

Cross Country Skiing - 0.9 miles around Silver Lake plus additional trails
Gear: Snowshoes/poles (weather dependent), gaiters (optional - can rent), (NO COTTON)
thermal top and bottom, wool socks or just not cotton socks, snow pants, long sleeve
fleece, light waterproof jacket, gloves, hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, camelback or
regular back pack (with space remaining to shove clothes in when you get too warm), 1
Liters water, 3-4 snacks, WATERPROOF boots or non-waterproof boots/shoes and also
rent "overshoes"

Sample Itinerary:
8 am - arrive at Solitude Nordic Center
8:30 am - buy passes and rent gear if needed
8: 45 am - Snowshoe/ski loop
