Snowshoe - Dry Creek, Tibble Fork 12/09/23

Itinerary:

Carpool - 1:00 pm

Hike to Granite Flats Campground - 2:00 pm

Hike up Dry/Deer Creek to SIlver Lake Road - 2:30 pm

Sled down Silver Lake Rd - 230-330pm

Parking Lot - 4:00 pm


Drive: East Bathrooms,Tibble Fk Reservoir, American Fk Cyn 


Cost: Permits: $6 day use fee (FREE if you have a parks pass - put on dashboard; cash - there is a fee booth at the east bathrooms in the Tibble Fk parking lot; online - pay ahead of time "www.yourpassnow.com" and write the number from your email on a greed tag and place on your dashboard)


Activity: Snowshoe Dry Creek/Silver Lk Road Loop - 3 miles. Start up trail to Granite Flats Campground, about 500 ft on rt is the trailhead for Dry Fk/Deer Creek Cyn Trail. Take this up through the woods staying to the middle generally, then to the rt if the trail forks. This trail should meet up with the Silver Lake road. You turn rt on the road and head back down canyon. There is a trail 237, that goes above the road on the left which is what we preferred on the way down.

Optional Sledding - sled down the main Silver Lake Road back to Tibble Fk parking lot (you can sled about half of it)


Gear: Snowshoes/poles (weather dependent), gaiters (optional - can rent), (NO COTTON)

thermal top and bottom, wool socks or just not cotton socks, snow pants, long sleeve

fleece, light waterproof jacket, gloves, hat, headlamp, sunglasses, sunscreen, camelback or

regular back pack (with space remaining to shove clothes in when you get too warm), 1

Liters water, 3-4 snacks, WATERPROOF boots or non-waterproof boots/shoes and also

rent "overshoes", sled.

Snowshoes: $10 (UVU- includes poles and overboots or $8 only

snowshoes); $10 (BYU Outdoors Unltd); $10 (Out N’ Back in

Orem)

Overshoes: $4 (UVU Outdoor Adventure); $5 (BYU Outdoors Unltd)

Poles: $4 (Out N Back); $5 (BYU Outdoors Unltd)

Gaiters (cover ankles from getting snow): $3 (BYU Outdoors Unltd)
