Youth Hiking - Box Canyon, Maple Canyon, Fountain Green 5/27/24

This Canyon is such a blast and very different from the Wasatch front canyons. You can also bring stuff to rock climb if any kids want to do that after and you have someone who can lead climb.

Sample Itinerary:

9 am - Drive

10:30 - 12:00 pm - Hike

12:30 -2:30 pm (optional rock climbing at the School Room area - easy kid climbs - will need a day pass $5 CASH)

Directions: Box Canyon Trailhead, Maple Canyon, Fountain Green (Trailhead is not marked. Entrance on the north (right) side of the road. Parking is limited - may need to shuttle groups up from entrance of the canyon on busy days. Dirt road but passable with cars.)

Activity: Hiking Box Canyon - 1.2 mile round trip with 3 10-ft Boulder obstacles. Generally there is more than one way up, through or around obstacles. Second one had a wooden ladder which was very helpful. Before only had a rope tied to a bolt above. 40 ft waterfall at the end. Usually not flowing much but in a cool alcove. (note - it is the end of a series of rappels that you can do - entrance is VERY difficult to find though through the thick brush above).  All Trails Trip Report

Bathrooms - no (pit toilets available about 10 minutes up dirt road or in town in fountain Green)

Cell Reception - no

Dogs - yes

Gear: 1 L water, snacks, hiking shoes, shorts/T-shirt, long sleeve, rain jacket, sunscreen, sunglasses, hat, backpack
