Itinerary:

Carpooling - 7 AM

Lehman Cave Tour - 10-10:30 am (WATCH TIME CHANGE IN NEVADA - hour behind)

Lunch - 11 am

Gandy Warm Springs Cave - 12-1:30 pm

Crystal Ball Cave - 2-5 pm40

Drive home - 5 - 9:30 pm (dinner on the way in Delta)

Cost:

  • Lehman Cave Tours - $8 Lantern Tour (30 min - has walk in tickets available same day), $12 Parachute Shield Tour (60 min - reserve 1 month in advance online), $40 Wild Cave Tour (4 hr reserve 1 month in advance online)

  • Crystal Ball Cave Tours - $10-12 suggested donation (venmo @batesfamilyranch); text Kiersten for appts 801-787-6675


Activity:

Lehman Cave Tours - Guided ranger tours through various areas of the cave with different lengths. Paved trails. Lit cave. Stairs. No food, water, gum or bags in the cave. Will need to walk through pre-set bleach solution before entering the cave to prevent White Nose Syndrome fungus in the bat population. You are not allowed to enter if you are wearing any clothing you wore to a previous cave (unless thoroughly cleaned - EXCEPTION - Crystal Ball Cave has no White Nose and is not a concern)

  • Gothic Palace/Lantern Tour (30 min) - Only goes to the Gothic Palace and back. (this year only because the lights have gone out in this section of the cave and they will be getting repaired this winter). Can do walk in. Tickets available 8 am at Visitors Center.

  • Parachute Shield Tour - 1 hr long. 0.3 miles paved trail with some stairs. Many shield formations.

  • Wild Cave Tour - 4 hr long. 1.5 miles. 16 yr+. Scrambling, no bathrooms or water. Off trail exploration with a ranger. Need headlamp, knee pads, gloves.


Caving - Gandy Warm Springs Cave - Small warm (70-80 degrees) clear, blue pool with small waterfalls and a little dam for soaking. Best part is the small cave entrance on the north west under the waterfall with plants hanging down. Tunnel goes back about 30 ft. Can touch the ground, roof of cave is about 2-3 ft above the water. Narrow. Ends in a small waterfall and medium sized room. The reflective tourquise blue water is incredible.


Caving - Crystal Ball Cave - Guided tour through a BLM cave from local steward, Kiersten or Evan. 1 mile total. 0.25 mile steep uphill approach. Walk on dirt paths through cave with several spots you need to duck or kneel down to go through. Mostly large caverns. Unique formations only found in this cave along with a prehistoric horse hoof and ankle! Need to bring your own light but guide also has a large one. Road Trip Ryan Trip Report.


Gear: headlamp, small flashlight, extra batteries, hiking pants, synthetic t-shirt, long sleeve shirt, swimming suit, towel, 1 Liters water, 3-4 snacks, brown bag lunch, hiking shoes, water shoes, waterproof camera case, baby wipes
