Hiking - Mormon Pioneer Trail 7/20/21

This 18+ mile out and back trail offers so many optional short sections to help you "get your pioneer on"!

Directions - Big Mountain Pass, Emigration Canyon. Trailhead

Activity -

Hike a 2.5 mile one way section of the Mormon Pioneer Trail - from about 0.8 mile to the east of Big Mountain Pass there is a dirt parking lot on the rt side of the road where a short dirt trail connects to the Mormon Pioneer trail. Take this heading uphill and west to Big Mountain Pass (this trail is poorly marked and will need a topo app (Gaia) to stay on track. At the pass, head downhill to the switchback (1.5 more miles - dirt parking lot on south side of road) Trip Report (Affleck Park Campground is closed to the public without reservations). Set up a car on either end for ease of hike.

Gear - Hiking pants, synthetic T-shirt, long sleeve synthetic top, long sleeve fleece, light waterproof jacket, thin gloves, hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, camelback or regular back pack with waist belt, 1-2 Liters water, 3-4 snacks, first aid kit, hiking boots/running shoes, trekking poles (optional).
